How We May Help

Three ways of working with families at different stages of their journey.

Listening and Letter Engagement

Listening & Letter Engagement

A single listening session followed by one carefully composed letter — addressed to a former spouse, an estranged adult child, or another family member. Many disagreements soften when a measured, well-worded letter arrives. No further legal step is needed in many cases.

  • Private, unhurried consultation
  • Lawyer-drafted correspondence
  • Plain-English tone throughout

Maintenance & Custody Application

Considered legal work for parents seeking both maintenance and custody orders together as a single coherent application under Malaysian civil family law. Supporting documents are prepared with patient attention to detail; the child's welfare is the firm's central concern throughout.

  • Single, coherent application
  • Representation at hearings
  • Regular written updates

Family Affairs Plan with Mediation

Family Affairs Plan with Mediation

A multi-session engagement combining structured family mediation with formal legal documentation. Agreed outcomes on parenting, property, and longer-term finances are translated into clear, plain-English documents. The plan may be reviewed annually at the client's option.

  • Comprehensive written settlement
  • Optional annual review

Would it help to simply talk first?

Family situations rarely fit a standard form. We welcome an initial conversation — by phone or in person at our Bangsar Baru office — before any commitment is made on either side.

Common Questions

Questions that families often bring when they first reach out.

What does a listening session involve?
A listening session is a private, one-to-one meeting — typically 60 to 90 minutes — in which a lawyer from our firm gives full attention to your circumstances without rushing toward conclusions. We find that people often arrive with a clearer sense of what they actually need once they have had the space to speak at their own pace.
How long does a custody and maintenance application take?
The timeline depends on the complexity of the situation and the court's scheduling, but combined applications of this kind in Malaysia's civil courts often take between three and eight months from the date of filing. We provide written updates throughout so that you are never left wondering about the state of your matter.
Is mediation suitable for all family situations?
Mediation works well when both parties are willing to engage in good faith, though the level of willingness does not need to be equal at the outset. It is less appropriate in situations involving documented harm or a significant imbalance of power. During an initial consultation we can help you assess whether a mediation-led approach is a sensible path forward.
Are your fees fixed or does the cost vary?
The fees shown on our services page are the starting fees for each engagement as described. Where a matter involves additional hearings, correspondence, or documentation beyond the standard scope, we discuss the additional costs transparently before any extra work begins. There are no hidden charges.
Will my information be kept in confidence?
Yes. Everything shared with our lawyers is protected by legal professional privilege under Malaysian law. We do not share client information with third parties except in the limited circumstances required by law, and even then only after informing the client where permitted to do so.
